Barney stretched his arms over and above the pallet slats of the homemade headboard.
He belched un-proportionally loud as the insignificant muscles of his flabby stomach contracted in response.
The nineteen-year-old youth scratched his face as he felt the itching of a fine beard emerging from the previously dormant follicles. Puberty had lost its way whilst en route to upgrading Barney's life to becoming an adult.

Barney frowned. He pulled his long blonde hair away from the lower part of his child-like face. The action partly exposed a pair of jug-handled ears attached to his skull beside a pale acne-encrusted face. He looked at his dinosaur-faced novelty clock.
He noisily grumbled. “I don’t believe it. One claw past ten, and something or somebody has woken me up.” Barney attempted to yawn while sulkily pushing out a bottom lip.

One leg lazily followed the other as Barney placed his bare feet on the wooden floor, ready to stand up and investigate the tapping noise. As he began to rise, something hit him hard in the middle of his concave chest.
“What the heck, Butch? Can’t anyone let me have a sleep-in — Just the once?” Barney looked the strange-looking dog in the eye while tickling him behind large drooping black ears.
Butch was special. In the trendy age of merged double-barrelled breeds such as Cockapoo, Sprocker, and Rottbull are typical examples.
